AI Answering Service for Handyman Businesses

Every missed call is a day's work, and the repeat customer behind it.

Handyman work is a volume business built on small jobs, which makes the phone the single most important asset you own. There is no pipeline, no long sales cycle and no contract. There is a call, and either you took it or you did not.

The economics are unforgiving

If the average job is two hundred dollars and you miss four calls a week, that is eight hundred a week gone. Not lost to a competitor who was better, lost to one who happened to be free at that exact moment. Nothing else in the business has that ratio of cost to cause.

Half the calls are not worth taking

The other side of high volume is that plenty of enquiries are not viable: jobs outside your area, jobs needing a licensed trade, jobs where someone wants a free opinion on a problem they intend to fix themselves. Answering all of them personally is how a day disappears.

Brief your receptionist on what you do not do, gas, structural, anything above a certain height, anything beyond your radius, and it will say so politely and move on rather than booking a visit you will cancel.

Stacking a route

Small jobs only pay when they are close together. A receptionist that knows your service area captures the address up front, so tomorrow’s work clusters into one part of town instead of crossing the city three times.

Where it draws the line

It will not diagnose a fault over the phone, price something it cannot see, or promise a quick fix. It makes sure that at five past eight on a Saturday morning, the person with a list of six small jobs reaches you rather than the next name in the results.

Questions handyman businesses ask

Can it work out whether a job is worth my time?

Brief it to ask what the job is and roughly how long the caller thinks it will take. A list of six small jobs is worth a visit; one shelf twenty miles away is not, and you can see which it is before you commit.

Will it quote an hourly rate?

It will repeat your hourly rate or your minimum callout if you brief it with them. That alone filters out a surprising number of calls that were never going to be worth driving to.

I do a bit of everything. Can it cope with that?

Yes, within reason. Brief it with what you do and what you do not, so a caller asking for gas work or anything notifiable gets told no quickly rather than booked by mistake.

Can it book jobs straight into my day?

Yes, into your Google Calendar during the call. For a handyman that is the main gain, because the admin that eats your evenings is mostly scheduling.

Most of my calls come while I am already working. Does that matter?

It is the reason the service exists. A sole trader cannot be on a ladder and on the phone, and the caller who rings out simply calls the next handyman on the list.
